My daughter claims she has heard from 2 sources that Lane is going to start taking general population students? I told her that's insane and I follow things relatively closely. I know Jones will have a neighborhood component with the new building and was wondering if anyone else heard this rumor.

I would be interested in hearing from students or parents of students currently enrolled in the LTAC. We just received our letter and will be going to the welcome to the LTAC Q&A session April 3, but we are wondering about the atmosphere, classes, etc. there from a student and parent's perspective. Are the students as serious as we assume they would be about their studies? Are they respectful of their classmates and teachers? Are the students safe?

Also, do the teachers work together as a team -- communicate well, have expectations of students as far as behavior, etc. with consistent and clearly outlined consequences and followup for behavior issues without constantly changing course when something doesn't work the first time it is tried?

All of these things are issues with our current neighborhood school.....

    Thanks!

Hi, I'm currently a 7th grader at LTAC. You probably found out a lot of these things if you went to the informational meeting a week ago, but just in case...
I'll be honest, some students are more serious than others, but everyone is generally respectful of their teachers and classmates. There have been a few problems, but one of my best friends goes to the Whitney Young AC, and it's like that there, too. The students are unquestionably safe. I've never had anyone bother me in the shopping centers by Lane, or by a high schooler.
The teachers aren't really a team in terms of homework load (sometimes every teacher gives us a big assignment on the same day.) Some are tougher than others, but they all expect our best effort and behavior and we follow the same disciplinary code as the high school. Lane's been around for so long, that code rarely changes! We do have a discipline office if some major infraction is committed. I personally don't know anyone who's been sent there.
The classes are tough, and the teachers certainly don't coddle you. But there is definitely a positive atmosphere, and tutoring and counseling specifically for LTAC for anyone who needs it.
    Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for your reply! We have had most of our questions answered over the last week and a half, but I am grateful for your perspective because a student's always differs from a parent's. Thank you for taking the time to respond; looking forward to following your class through.
