Why no 2013 tours?

Long time lurker/first time poster.

The magnet in our neighborhood advertised a tour schedule in 2012 on their site. I called to come to the final one (on 12/18) but was told it was cancelled. Then, I was told there would be no planned open houses/tours at all in 2013 leading up to the acceptance date.

Is this common among the magnet schools? Or is this just our neighborhood magnet being difficult? We'd like to see the place before committing to it.

It varies by school. Some just hold one open-house a year. Our school gives five or six a year.

It does vary by school. However, after acceptances are announced but before acceptances are due, some schools invited accepted families in for a tour. Doesn't help if you are on the wait list, though.

I don't understand it either. I think that with the popularity of these schools and the price of tuition, they should open more so there aren't any waiting lists and the schools could make more money.
